REGIONAL OFFICE OF EDUCATION #02
Alexander-Johnson-Massac-Pulaski-Union Counties
Janet Ulrich, Regional Superintendent
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Regional Office of Education is to promote quality education for the school children and citizens of southernmost Illinois, to provide educational leadership, and to deliver educational services effectively for the benefit of school districts, other educational entities, and their communities.
We play an integral role in the delivery of services to all nineteen districts and four cooperatives within the Five-County Region.
We lend support to our schools by:
Exercising supervision over all school districts
Serving as official advisor and assistant to school officers and teachers in the region
Administering programs such as GED testing, truancy prevention, Adult and Alternative Education, and the Safe Schools program--all programs which districts often cannot provide alone
Providing technical assistance for schools, including professional development for both teachers and administrators and certification services for our region's educators
Conducting school compliance visits to ensure that all school districts are meeting state mandates
Upholding fiscal standards and facilitating the resolution of legal issues
Reviewing and monitoring all school health/life safety projects, new construction, additions, rehabilitations, repairs, and reconstruction
Writing and implementing state and federal grants to bring state and federal dollars back to our region for educational programs that benefit our citizens

As we move to the next fiscal year, the Regional Office of Education remains committed to raising student achievement, enhancing the professional development of educators, and maintaining a data-driven process for accountability in our schools.
